Our Business
Surdo Prop was established in Cape Town in 2023 by Founder Gabriel da Matta, an admitted attorney, registered property practitioner. Gabriel has 8 years experience in the property industry. After moving down to the Cape from Jhb in
2017 to take up roles for a JSE-listed property developer where he sold over R400m worth of off-plan property in Paardevlei, Somerset West. Gabriel and his family relocated to the Southern Suburbs in 2019 and he spent 3.5 years with a
national property agency where he gained majority market share during his 3 year stint. Disillusioned with the value offering within a traditional big brand agency and inspired by his first born, Gabriel founded Surdo Prop.

Meet the inspiration behind Surdo Prop - the indomitable Bella Da Matta
This incredibly bold and vibrant young lady was diagnosed at 2.5 years old with moderate to severe hearing loss. Bella spent the formative years of her life with one weakened sense as a result of a genetic disorder. At 3.5 years old it was discovered that Bella’s team had incorrectly diagnosed her with hearing loss when in fact she had bilateral sensorineural deafness and was declared profoundly deaf in February 2021.
Bella was fitted with bilateral cochlear implants on 23 March 2021 - A day that changed her life forever! Bella persists everyday in the face of great adversity to fit into a hearing world. She uses total communication to relay messages to the outside world which mainly take the form of sign language and a growing amount of verbal communication.
How Does This Relate To Surdo Prop?
The word Surdo means 'deaf' in Portuguese, an ode to our founder, Gabriel Da Matta’s heritage and his pure everyday inspiration, Bella da Matta. It is the inspiration of determination, persistence, and uniqueness that relays itself so strongly from Bella to our founder and our mission.
